This Spring, Global Paint for Charity (GPC) proudly shone our Donor Spotlight on a remarkable small business with a big heart, “Flying Colors,” a Professional Renovations and Painting Services company, based in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. For more than six consecutive years, Flying Colors, under the leadership of owner Stephanie Drumheller, has generously donated hundreds of gallons of leftover paint from their contracting and renovation projects to support our mission of recycling and repurposing excess paint for communities in need. Instead of allowing reusable paint to end up in landfills, Stephan and her team chose to give it new life, transforming homes, schools, and community spaces around the world.
Founded in 1994 and based in Kill Devil Hills in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Flying Colors has grown into one of the region’s most respected and trusted painting and renovation companies. For over 30 years, under the leadership of owner Stephanie Drumheller, the company has built a reputation rooted in craftsmanship, integrity, and renovation service. Serving coastal communities, especially after natural disasters where quality, speed, and durability matter, Stephanie and her team of skilled professionals have transformed residential homes, commercial properties, and community spaces with precision and care. Their work reflects not only technical excellence but also a genuine commitment to the communities they serve. What makes Flying Colors truly stand out is their decision to lead with purpose and community. Instead of allowing usable paint from their projects to go to waste, they chose to partner with Global Paint for Charity, turning leftover materials into opportunities for community impact. This model is a powerful example of how local contractors and small businesses can be part of a larger circular-economy solution. A Testament to Partnership and Global Impact
Their commitment goes far beyond donating paint. Flying Colors has also made financial contributions to support Global Paint for Charity’s logistics and shipping efforts, helping ensure that every gallon collected reaches communities where it can make a real difference. This level of support reflects not only generosity but a deep understanding of how local actions can create global impact. Because of partners like Flying Colors, we have consistently delivered hope, color, and dignity to underserved communities across the Caribbean, Latin America, and Africa. In 2019, Flying Colors donated more than 2,900 gallons of paint to support GPC’s beautification initiative in Georgetown, Guyana. This paint helped the Demerara Foundation rehabilitate and restore several major public institutions and community facilities. Over 400 gallons were provided directly to the Board of Governors at St. Rose’s High School, one of Guyana’s most prestigious educational institutions, where the paint was used to revitalize classrooms and hallways, as well as the exterior surfaces of the buildings, creating a brighter learning environment for over 1,000 students. |
| This major project, supported by The Demerara Charitable Foundation and Crowley Shipping Services, brought together dozens of volunteers and trade school students who worked tirelessly to bring color and dignity back to their community. A commemorative plaque honoring Global Paint for Charity, The Demerara Charitable Foundation, and Flying Colors now stands at the school to celebrate this international act of compassion, gratitude, transformation, and unity. When the shipment arrived, St. Rose’s High School was not the only beneficiary. The donated paint also brightened the interior and exterior walls of churches, mosques, temples, and shelters, including homes for Venezuelan refugees in Georgetown, Guyana. Even St. Agnes Primary School, the preparatory institution to St. Rose’s, began receiving paint for future renovation projects. These projects restored community, beauty, and pride and inspired hundreds of families to once again believe in the power of color and kindness.
At GPC, we believe that partnerships like this define the heart of our movement, ordinary people and small businesses choosing to make an extraordinary difference. Stephanie’s ongoing dedication and generosity demonstrate that sustainable impact can begin at home and reach thousands of miles to bring color, hope, and happiness with a single choice: to reuse, recycle, and give back. To Stephanie and the entire Flying Colors team, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your unwavering support and leadership exemplify what it means to “paint change” not just on walls, but in communities and lives. Thank you for helping us color the world with compassion, sustainability, and hope. We invite paint contractors, retailers, distributors, and home improvement professionals to follow this example. If you have discontinued, excess, or leftover paint from projects and renovations of commercial and residential properties, there is a meaningful and responsible way to put it to good use. Global Paint for Charity provides a simple, compliant process for collecting and redistributing these materials, and we issue immediate tax-deductible donation receipts, creating a true win-win for your business, the environment, and communities in need. Background Global Paint for Charity has a long history of donating recycled paint to beautify the local community and communities abroad. Approximately 70% of the color collected by GPC is shipped overseas to communities in need, while 30% is distributed to local artists, nonprofits, and governments for community projects and murals. That amounts to about 1.5 million pounds of paint to revitalize local communities. Some examples include a donation of 7,700 lbs. of paint to renovate The King Center in Atlanta in 2019 and beautifying homes in Atlanta’s Westside, including the Empire Board of Realtists, the oldest minority-owned professional real estate trade association in the United States. GPC even provided paint for urban beautification projects in Atlanta leading up to Super Bowl LIII in partnership with the NFL and Super Bowl Host Committee. We can only do important work like this with your support.
