Global Paint for Charity and UPS Foundation Deliver Life-Changing Gift to the Dominican Republic
A vibrant wave of generosity recently made its way from Chicago, Illinois to the heart of Los Mameyes, Santiago in Dominican Republic. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Dr. Rony Delgarde and his dedicated team at Global Paint for Charity, in partnership with the UPS Foundation.
This transformative initiative involved the donation and shipment of between 4,000 and 5,000 gallons of high-quality recycled paint, with an estimated local market value of $240,000. Accompanied by 15 cases of essential supplies and 6 cases of paint brushes and equipment, the paint was loaded and shipped in September from a warehouse in Illinois.
What makes this effort even more remarkable is the sustainable model behind it. Rather than letting the paint end up in landfills, Global Paint for Charity collected surplus donations from individuals and companies, then carefully sorted and processed them into usable 1-gallon and 5-gallon containers. This initiative not only reduces environmental waste but also empowers underserved communities across the globe—where a can of paint is often a luxury far out of reach.
For the residents of Los Mameyes, many of whom live in homes that haven’t seen a fresh coat of paint in decades—if ever—this donation means more than aesthetic improvement. It represents dignity, pride, and a renewed sense of possibility. Vibrant colors can uplift spirits, transform schools and homes, and restore hope where it’s desperately needed.
The project wouldn’t have been possible without the generous in-kind shipping donation from the UPS Foundation, which covered the door-to-door transportation of nearly 38,000 pounds of materials. From navigating customs to delivering supplies across borders, UPS stood by the mission every step of the way.
Even when unexpected delays resulted in $8,900 in demurrage charges, the UPS Foundation didn’t hesitate, they covered the full amount without question. Their unwavering support not only ensured the success of this humanitarian effort, but also signaled to local supporters that the project was viable and worth investing in.
As a result, community members in the Dominican Republic rallied together. Inspired by the generosity of Global Paint and UPS, they donated, volunteered, and helped form the mission team that would bring color—and hope—back into their neighborhoods.
This partnership showcases what’s possible when compassion, environmental stewardship, and corporate responsibility come together for the greater good. It’s a powerful reminder that paint is more than a product—it’s a tool for transformation.
